How To Prepare For Moving Day

How To Prepare For Moving Day

If you’re preparing for a house relocation in Waikato, you no doubt will have a lot of preparations to worry about. If moving day arrives and you haven’t properly prepared, it could end up causing you not only a massive amount of stress but could also carry potential financial implications.

To remove any risk of moving day being a calamity, here are just a few things you should consider to prepare for moving day so that, when the day arrives, all goes smoothly.

Stock Up

The first thing to do when planning your move is to stock up on things you will need for the move.

You will need a lot of boxes – more than you probably expect! You could always purchase the cardboard boxes you need. However, you could go the more environment-friendly (and free) route and see about getting hold of discarded packaging boxes from a local shopping centre.

You will also need lots of sticky tape to close up your boxes and keep them from breaking open when carried, as well as a handful of permanent markers and perhaps some labelling stickers to label your boxes.

Pets And Children

If you have pets and/or small children, moving day is likely to be a very traumatic and confusing day for them. In preparing for the big day, it is wise to consider them in your plans. The best solution is to have them out of the way entirely until the move is complete.

For pets, you might want to have them either placed in a kennel overnight where they can be looked after and kept safe and secure until you’re ready to bring them into your new home. Cats tend to be a little more tricky to manage than dogs when it comes to moving, but all pets require careful consideration as the move can be extremely stressful for them.

For small children, see if you can’t have them taken care of by a friend or family member, or perhaps a daycare until the bulk of the move is complete. Once it is over, you can collect them and take them through to the new house.

Get Help

Many people try to skimp on moving costs by doing it all themselves. This might save you a few dollars in the short term, but the stress and physical toll that this takes on a person can be costly down the line. Things get dropped, furniture gets damaged, walls get scuffed, backs get hurt and so on.

It is best to call in professional movers who can take care of it for you!
